Pool Lighting innovations
As winter approaches and the hours of daylight become shorter, we look to solutions that allow us to continue with outdoor activities like swimming. Having adequate lighting in your pool area not only makes swimming an ongoing option through the cooler months, but also makes it more appealing. Not only that, it can provide an easy but stunning design feature for your home.
Here’s our rundown of the latest lighting innovations so that you can get the most out of your pool this autumn and winter.
LED overtaking halogen
Although LED lights can be more expensive than halogen, they have a number of advantages over halogens that are fast making them the most popular option on the market.
LED lights operate on 15% of the energy of a Halogen light. They also don’t create the amount of heat a halogen light creates and emit light in a specific direction. In fact Waterco’s Britestream lights, which you can find in your local Swimart, have built-in heat management. In addition, the Britestream LED lights also have a very long life span – over 70,000 hours, which is equivalent to more than 30 years of illumination (based on six hours’ usage per day).
Today the availability of high quality brighter LED lights is much more widespread, and the price has come down to make them more affordable.
Flush mounted and multicoloured
Although you can opt for surface mounted lights that protrude into the pool a little bit, flush mounted lighting is installed inside the wall of the pool so that it creates a smooth finish. All that can be seen is the face of the light. One of the main advantages of flush mounted lighting is the flexibility in terms of placement; they can be placed almost anywhere inside your pool including near stairs, as they do not protrude and therefore won’t be knocked about or cause a trip hazard for swimmers.
Versatility is an integral part of LED lights, as they can produce a myriad of different colours without the need for coloured lenses. Visit your local Swimart store to see the full range of colours LED pool lighting is available in.
