Be sun safe around the pool
Whether you burn within ten minutes of stepping outside because of a pale complexion, or you’re the type that can enjoy the sunshine for hours without turning lobster red, it does pay to take some protective measures.
Here’s some of the best ways to stay smart in the sun whilst in your pool this summer:
When it comes to swimming, sunscreen really is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from those pesky UV rays. Things like hats and extra items of clothing can be impractical when you and the kids are swimming, so the all over body coverage you get from sunscreen is very appealing.
Remember to choose a sunscreen variety that is at least SPF 30+ and waterproof! It is also important to note that you may need to reapply after swimming.
Umbrellas and shade sails
While sunscreen provides a great deal of protection, increasing the amount of shade in the pool area is a key part of reducing your family’s exposure to the sun. A simple way to do this is to place an outdoor umbrella near the edge of the pool so that some of the water is in the shade.
Another more permanent option is to install shade sails over the entire pool area. These will provide shade for your family for many years to come!
Rash vests or sun shirts are a fantastic option, as they don’t restrict movement in the water and provide a solid barrier against the sun. And don’t think these are just for the kids, there are a range of fashionable options out there for adults too!
