IS YOUR SPA READY FOR WINTER?

28 April 2017

If you own a spa and live in an area that’s still experiencing unseasonably warm weather, then you’re likely rejoicing at the news that this long, humid spell might finally be coming to end. Cooler conditions mean dusting off the spa cover and enjoying all the benefits that come from immersing yourself in soothing, bubbling warm water.

Reducing stress levels, soothing sore muscles and stiff joints, and aiding in a good night's sleep are just some of the reasons why people invest in a spa. It also helps that they're a lot more affordable than a swimming pool!

However, before you switch your spa on, have you checked that it's safe to use? Viruses, bacteria and algae thrive in warm water so, if your spa has been neglected over summer, now's the time to make sure it's clean and healthy before you jump in.

Swimart spa care

Your local Swimart store stocks a wide selection of spa care products for all types of spa models, ranging from Bromine Tablets (chemical sanitiser) and Aqua-Health Spa Shock (reduces the organic content in spa water) to AquaSpa Spa Kleer (a chlorine-free solution that makes the water sparkle).

First, we recommend that you test the water to determine where the hydrogen peroxide, pH, total alkalinity and total hardness levels are at. You can do this with Poppits 4 Way Test Strips or by taking a water sample to your local Swimart store.

Sanitising your spa is essential for safe, healthy water, free of harmful micro-organisms. The most common forms are chlorine and bromine. The amount of disinfectant required depends on a number of factors, including water temperature, the number of people who typically use your spa, and the amount of times it's used. It's important to maintain sanitiser levels at 2-3ppm.

If you need to add chemicals, remember to add them to the water (not the other way around) and avoid mixing different types together. When in doubt, call your local Swimart store for advice.

Resort Spas & Swim Spas

Known for their high quality, durability and comfort, Swimart's Resort range of relaxing spas and swim spas are the perfect antidote to winter. Not only do they feature contoured seats and soothing spas jets but some models also include high-tech accessories like WiFi, coloured lighting and Bluetooth stereo system.

If you're thinking of upgrading to a new spa but not sure what features to include, your local Swimart spa professional will be able to advise you on the best model for your lifestyle needs.

Would you like to know how to convert your spa from chlorine or bromine to something healthier and gentler on your skin? Next week we'll show you just how simple it is to make the switch to Poppits.
