Keep Toasty And Warm In Your Pool

Having a pool in your backyard is a great gateway to maintaining a regular exercise regime; not only does it give you the chance to log some serious cardio time swimming laps, but it also provides you with the chance to perform resistance exercises too.

However, the colder weather can bring your days of exercising in the pool to a grinding halt. Keep your pool warmer and brighter this winter with these handy pool extras:

Heating
Want to extend your swimming season? Your main options for heating are gas, solar and heat pump. Solar can be expensive to install, however it does pay for itself soon enough, as our mostly sunny climate allows us to harness the power of the sun consistently to heat the pool.

Heat pumps are very energy efficient and reliable; while gas heaters offer the fastest way to heat your pool.

Covers
A pool cover will help your pool retain heat. They are a great way to help extend your swim season into the cooler months. This is especially helpful for those who rely upon their pool as a means to fit in exercise regularly.

Lighting
Now lighting doesn’t directly heat your pool, of course; but it does make it more appealing than if it was left dark, doesn’t it? LED is the most energy efficient type of lighting on the market right now, and is available in several colours and levels of brightness.

Swimming laps can get a bit boring after a while, so try these more entertaining ways to get your heart pumping in the pool:

  • The spiderman: Climb the side of the pool with your feet, while swinging your arms to stabilise yourself
  • Water jogging: In waist high water, jog up and down your pool for three minutes
  • Pool plank: Stand on the pool floor, grab a pool noodle and press it down into the water until your body is on an even incline. Keep yourself stable for 1-2 minutes.
