The Benefits of Pool Covers

10 December 2010

Installing or using a pool cover is a simple and highly effective way of keeping your pool free of garden debris and bugs. But there are numerous other benefits to making sure your pool is covered up when not in use. Pool covers are an essential accessory for any pool and will save you both time and money when it comes to pool maintenance. And using a pool cover is one of the best ways of preventing your precious pool water evaporating, quite literally, into thin air.

Cover up with a Pool Cover!

No pool is complete without one

Pool covers prevent water evaporation by up to 95 per cent so they are one of the best things you can do around the pool to preserve your pool water. By keeping your pool water clean, a pool cover drastically decreases the number of times your pool will need backwashing.

Keeping your pool covered also reduces the amount of chemical usage by stopping chemical evaporation into the atmosphere. And a cover will also save you up to 50 per cent on heating costs.

This is because evaporation is the major source of heat loss for swimming pools, which occurs mainly at night when the air temperature drops below the temperature of the water in the pool. And for those of you without the luxury of pool heating, a pool cover actually helps extend your swimming season into the autumn and spring months, increasing the pool temperature by around 6-8˚C in pools that get the sun.

So which pool cover is right for you?

There are various types of pool covers on the market, such as bubble blankets, thermal blankets, leaf covers and slat covers.

Bubble blankets are currently the most popular and are easy to install, easy to use, give exceptional life span and are also generally the cheapest. Swimart sells and highly recommends the Daisy range of pool covers.

These are the first real advances in solar pool cover design for years, made stronger to last longer with extended warranties to reflect this quality.
