Regardless of where you live, evaporation is likely to be the biggest source of energy loss in your pool. As a rough guide, every millimetre of evaporation equates to one litre of water per square metre, resulting in a potential loss of thousands of litres of pool water per season.

The good news is that installing a pool cover will significantly reduce evaporation, which in turn will reduce the money you need to spend on water and chemical bills. In fact, swimming pool covers cut back on the effort and expense required to maintain your pool by preventing leaves and debris from polluting the water, subsequently keeping it cleaner for longer.

Here are 6 reasons why you need a pool cover:

  1. Keeps pool water clean. Pulling the cover over your pool during the cooler months when it’s not in use will save you a lot of time cleaning out leaves, dirt and other debris that would be blown into the water if it wasn’t covered. This ensures it's clean and clear when you're ready to use it.
  2. Saves water. While evaporation rates vary greatly depending on a range of factors including volume of water and location, the average pool can lose up to 2.5cm of water each day. This can add up to a whopping 9,500-litres of water a month if your pool measures 9.2 metres x 4.5 metres. An added bonus is that you won’t have to be constantly topping up your pool water, which is great news if you own a rainwater tank.
  3. Conserves energy. A pool cover will increase heat retention by up to 75 per cent, reducing CO² emissions and saving on power normally used to run auxiliary heating systems.
  4. Reduces chemical loss. Chlorine and salt are a major cost to pool owners. However, after installing a pool cover, use of these chemicals can be reduced by 50 per cent. This is because most pool chemicals return to their natural gas state and escape into the atmosphere, leaving you with little option but to top it up. A pool cover is a simple yet effective solution to preventing chemical consumption.
  5. Keeps the heat in. Over winter, a pool cover acts as a barrier between the cold air and the warmer pool water. This is particularly good news if you have a heat pump, solar or gas system in place, as the heat they generate won’t be instantly lost. It also means the system won’t have to work as hard, so you can reduce running times and costs.
  6. Reduces dust and debris. Preventing the majority of dust and debris from entering the pool will reduce the maintenance required to keep your pool sparkling clean.

Swimart's range of Daisy pool covers

Manufactured in Australia, Daisy has spent more than 30 years developing a pool cover that can withstand our harsh climate – one that seems to get hotter each year. The result is a moulding technique that enables the polyethylene (PE) bubble layer to be formed in a consistent thickness, which results in enhanced durability and longevity.

Exclusive to Daisy, UltraDome™ is a long-lasting, high-tech material that is said to insulate like no other pool cover. Special features include:

  • Consistent thickness of every bubble, with most of the lower layer – the part that comes in contact with corrosive pool chemicals – made from durable PE
  • A special manufacturing process that eliminates stretching and therefore any weak points that can make it more susceptible to physical damage
  • Tougheners embedded within UltraDome to minimise solar and chemical degradation
  • Maximum UV absorbers and stabilisers
  • Enhanced insulation to keep pool water warmer for longer, thereby extending the swimming season
  • Available in a range of thicknesses made from recyclable, category 4 LDPE (low-density PE)

Put simply, Swimart's range of Daisy pool covers and rollers makes them easy to install and operate. In fact, it takes just 30 seconds to roll the cover off or back onto the pool water using a swimming pool roller.

Installing a Daisy pool cover and roller can save you more than just money. Harnessing the sun’s natural warmth, reducing water loss, eliminating heat loss, and substantially reducing back-breaking maintenance means more time to spend in the pool with your family.
